Turnah Sworn In as Bayelsa PDP Chairman

Barrister Alabh George Turnah, MON, has been sworn in as the substantive Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State.

Party members adopted the executives by consensus at the party’s State Congress held in Yenagoa on Friday, where Turnah and 19 other executive members were subsequently elected by affirmation.

The congress also witnessed the commissioning of the party’s new State Secretariat as well as the inauguration and swearing in of Ward, Local Government Area and State Executive Committee members.

Speaking after taking office, Turnah described his election as the beginning of a new phase for the party in Bayelsa State. He expressed confidence that the PDP remains the dominant political force in the state despite claims from some quarters that its influence has declined.

According to him, the party still enjoys strong support among the people of Bayelsa and remains the majority political platform in the state.

He also expressed optimism that the party would reclaim its mandate in the state in the 2027 elections.

Turnah assured members of an inclusive leadership style and promised to run an open door administration. He called on party members to remain united and committed to strengthening the party ahead of future political engagements.

Earlier, while commissioning the new PDP State Secretariat, Turnah thanked party leaders and members for their support during his time as chairman of the party’s caretaker committee. He noted that the leadership helped the party navigate a challenging period.

He also appreciated the national leadership of the party and acknowledged the support of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, for his contributions to the party.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were present to monitor the congress, alongside zonal and national officers of the party.
