The Bayelsa State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the attempted murder, indecent assault, grievous bodily harm, cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and abduction of Miss Nancy Wilfred, a native of Ighvie Town in Ughelli, Delta State, who currently resides in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Alonyenu Francis Idu, said the move follows public concern after a disturbing video of the incident went viral, noting that a thorough criminal investigation will be carried out to ensure the culprits are brought to justice.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, an exploratory interactive session was held with the victim on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, which was followed by further engagements with community-based organizations (CBOs) and gender advocacy groups. The statement also revealed that during the sessions, the victim made detailed disclosures about the abuse and dehumanization she suffered.
He appealed to the public to refrain from circulating the offensive video and other harmful images, stressing that such actions could further traumatize the victim. He urged citizens to channel their efforts toward supporting her recovery from the ordeal.
The statement further assured that appropriate measures are underway to apprehend those behind the “callous act” and reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice.
The Police Command added that a proper press briefing will be held to provide updates on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
