Niger Delta University Reacts to Viral Assault Video, Promises Thorough Investigation

The management of Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island, has officially responded to a viral video circulating on social media showing an alleged incident of assault involving a university staff member and a student.

In a statement signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Benjamin Joffa, NDU condemned the incident, describing it as one that undermines the values and reputation of the institution.

“The University strongly condemns any form of violence or misconduct within its community. Such incidents do not reflect the values or standards upheld by the institution and only serve to tarnish the image we have worked diligently to build,” the statement read.

While the specific details surrounding the altercation remain unclear, the university disclosed that an internal investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances and identify those involved. Management has assured that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against anyone found culpable.

“We assure the public that any individual found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with the University’s established rules and procedures,” the Registrar noted.

The University also called for public restraint in discussing the issue, urging individuals to refrain from making speculative or inflammatory comments while investigations are ongoing.

“We respectfully appeal for calm and restraint in public commentary and speculation regarding the incident. The University remains committed to transparency, justice, and due process in addressing this matter,” the statement concluded.
