The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has raised alarm over the activities of fraudsters using its Youth Internship Scheme to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the Director of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Seledi Thompson-Wakama, disclosed that scammers are circulating messages on social media requesting “all Nigerian youths” to submit their bank account details in order to receive a purported ₦50,000 monthly stipend.
He described the scheme as fraudulent, warning that the individuals behind it are exploiting the Commission’s youth empowerment initiatives to lure victims.

According to him, the NDDC has a well-documented and verified database of beneficiaries drawn from its official records, stressing that legitimate participants are selected through established processes.
Dr. Thompson-Wakama advised youths and the general public to be cautious and avoid falling victim to such deceptive practices, urging them to rely only on verified information from the Commission.
“It is disturbing that some individuals are taking advantage of youths who are genuinely seeking opportunities for meaningful engagement,” he said.
He further directed that all inquiries regarding the Youth Internship Scheme and other empowerment programmes should be made through the Commission’s official communication channels.
The NDDC also encouraged beneficiaries and prospective applicants to verify information via its official website [www.nddc.gov.ng] and social media platforms.
