Governor Douye Diri on Friday presented the 2026 budget estimate of N998,371,313,943.04 to members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, outlining plans to further accelerate development across the state.
Presenting the Appropriation Bill tagged Budget of Assured Prosperity II, the governor said the proposal reflects his administration’s shared commitment to building a greater and more prosperous Bayelsa.

He commended the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, the leadership and members of the House for their sustained cooperation in advancing the government’s developmental agenda.
Governor Diri disclosed that the 2025 Appropriation Law recorded 73 per cent performance, noting that the impact of the administration’s heavy investment in capital projects can already be seen across the state through ongoing legacy infrastructure.
For the second consecutive year, the state has proposed a budget in which capital expenditure outweighs recurrent spending. The 2026 proposal allocates N645,257,012,281.15, representing 64.6 per cent to capital projects, while recurrent expenditure stands at N353,114,301,661.90, representing 35.4 per cent.
The governor said more resources will be channeled into road and infrastructure construction, education, healthcare, sports development, skills acquisition and the power sector.
He also highlighted fresh provisions for potable water within Yenagoa and its environs as part of efforts to improve urban infrastructure. According to him, access to clean water should no longer be a luxury but a basic necessity for residents.
Governor Diri added that the government is committed to addressing longstanding challenges in the water and power sectors, including the construction of water reticulation lines in the state capital.
He said the 2026 Budget of Assured Prosperity II is designed to drive socio-economic growth and consolidate the administration’s development vision for Bayelsa State.
