F.G DECLARES PUBLIC HOLIDAY AS NIGERIA MARKS 65TH INDEPENDENCE

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who announced the declaration on behalf of the government, congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the historic occasion.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister called on citizens to reaffirm their commitment to patriotism, resilience, and the values that have sustained the country since independence in 1960.

He also encouraged Nigerians to keep faith in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is focused on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.

As part of the anniversary events, President Tinubu will deliver a national broadcast at 7:00 a.m. on October 1. The Independence Day parade will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with top government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and invited guests in attendance.

Celebrations, themed Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation, began on Sunday, September 28, with an inter-denominational church service at the National Christian Centre, Abuja. A world press conference was also held at the National Press Centre, Radio House, on Monday, September 29.

The activities will round off on Friday, October 3, with the unveiling of the National Values Charter and the grand finale of the National Campus Debate at the State House Conference Centre.
