BAYELSA STATE POLICE COMMAND ARRESTS THREE STUDENTS FOR ASSAULTING FEMALE VICTIM IN VIRAL VIDEO

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested three students involved in the assault and public humiliation of a young woman, Nancy Wilfred, as seen in a viral video that sparked national outrage.

The suspects, all students of the Federal University, Otuoke, were paraded at the Police Command Headquarters in Yenagoa and are currently being investigated for assault, attempted murder, cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and abduction.

One of the suspects, Blessing Daniel, popularly known as Kadi, confessed to her involvement and blamed her actions on excessive alcohol consumption.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects lured the victim to their residence under false pretenses, where they assaulted her, stripped her naked, and recorded the abuse, which was later uploaded online.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Idu, assured the public that justice will be served and confirmed that a fourth suspect is still at large and efforts are ongoing to apprehend her.

He also commended Governor Douye Diri, First Lady Dr. Gloria Diri, the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), and other gender rights advocates for their continued efforts to combat gender-based violence in the state.

The Commissioner further appealed to the public to stop sharing the viral video, stressing that continued circulation could worsen the victim’s emotional and psychological trauma.
