Bayelsa Marks Maiden Health Education and Promotion Day, Calls for Digital-Driven Healthcare Advocacy

The Bayelsa State Government has expressed satisfaction with the renewed interest in health advocacy in the state, describing it as a step toward strengthening primary healthcare delivery.

The Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa State Primary Health Care Board, Chief Dr. Appah Williams Weri, stated this during a road walk to mark the maiden edition of Bayelsa State Health Education and Promotion Day and the Induction of New NAHE Members, held under the theme “Reimagining Health Education for Professional Competence and Universal Health Coverage”, on Tuesday, 26th August 2025, at the Bayelsa Primary Health Care Board, Yenagoa.

He noted that the energy displayed by participants reflected a reinvigorated approach to improving healthcare. He explained that the board had created a dedicated Health Promotion Department and a podcast studio to enhance digital health education, stressing the need for stronger collaboration with health educators to deliver health messages effectively.

Dr. Appah urged participants to counter misinformation by taking up more digital space with structured health education programmes. He also suggested innovative strategies, such as improved vaccination campaigns and establishing a printing press for advocacy materials.

The Chairman of the National Association of Health Educators (NAHE), Dr. Doubrapade Walker, described the event as a stepping stone to greater achievements and pledged closer collaboration with the board to advance health education in the state.

He added that the Health Education and Promotion Day would now serve as an annual platform to build competence, strengthen advocacy, and support universal health coverage in Bayelsa.
