Bayelsa CP Condemns Assault on Keke Rider

The Bayelsa State Police Command has issued a strong response after a video surfaced online showing police officers allegedly assaulting a commercial tricycle operator (popularly called keke rider) in the state.

In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, criticized the behavior of the officers involved, describing the act as unprofessional and inconsistent with the ethics and expectations of modern policing.

CP Edebor stressed that under his leadership, the Command operates with a zero-tolerance stance toward human rights violations, brutality, and misconduct by personnel. He noted that the actions seen in the viral clip do not reflect the values, training, or operational standards of the Nigeria Police Force in Bayelsa State.

The Commissioner confirmed that the officers in the video have been identified and taken into custody. He added that disciplinary procedures have begun in accordance with the Police Act and other relevant regulations governing police discipline.

Reassuring the public, CP Edebor stated that the matter will be handled transparently and that sanctions will follow once investigations are completed. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting citizens’ dignity and safety while upholding professional and lawful policing methods across the state.

The Police Command encouraged residents to continue working with security agencies and to report any misconduct, assuring that complaints will be treated promptly and seriously.

The CP also visited the tricycle operator at the hospital where he is currently on admission from injuries he sustained during the assault.
