BAYELSA POLICE ARREST 60-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT OVER IED EXPLOSION

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man, Pentecost Elijah, a native of Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, in connection with a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion at the State Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa.

According to a statement by DSP Musa Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, the incident occurred on 11th February 2026 at about 0600hrs. Following the explosion, the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, immediately led operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Special Drone Unit, and other tactical teams to the scene.

On arrival, the EOD operatives swiftly contained the situation. The area was cordoned off and, during a detailed search, one unexploded IED was identified and successfully rendered safe.

No lives were lost and no property was destroyed in the incident.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and is currently undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department. Upon conclusion of the investigation, he will be charged to court.

The situation is now under control and normalcy has been restored. Members of the public are advised to remain calm and continue with their lawful business activities.
