Kano Court Orders TikTok Duo to Marry Over ‘Indecent’ Videos

A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered two popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to get married within 60 days after they were accused of producing and sharing “indecent” videos on social media.

The order followed a case filed by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board, which alleged that the duo’s viral clips violated the moral and cultural values of the state.

Presiding Magistrate Halima Wali directed the Kano State Hisbah Board to oversee and facilitate the marriage process. She further warned that failure to comply within the 60-day period would be treated as contempt of court.

The court’s decision has generated widespread reactions across social media, with some Nigerians supporting the move as a way to uphold public morality, while others criticised it as an infringement on personal freedom and a worrying example of moral policing.

Kano, one of the states in northern Nigeria governed by Islamic law, has in recent years tightened restrictions on entertainment content deemed contrary to local ethics and religious standards.
