Cameroon’s Paul Biya, 92, Re-Elected for Eighth Term After 43 Years in Power

Cameroon’s long-serving President, Paul Biya, has been re-elected for an eighth consecutive term, extending his 43-year rule over the Central African nation. The 92-year-old leader, who first assumed office in 1982, remains one of the world’s longest-serving heads of state.

According to preliminary reports, Biya’s Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) secured a decisive victory in the October 12 presidential election. The results are expected to be formally confirmed by the Constitutional Council before October 26.

Biya’s latest win comes despite growing calls for political change and renewed concerns about governance, economic stagnation, and the president’s advanced age.

Meanwhile, opposition figures had accused the ruling party of manipulating state resources to influence the electoral process.
