A butcher at Swali Market in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Mr. Onumogbu Kelechi ThankGod, popularly known as KC, has dismissed rumours circulating on social media claiming he was killed following an alleged attack by operatives of the Bayelsa State Volunteers.
The Bayelsa State Volunteers is a government-backed security outfit established to support law enforcement agencies in combating crime across the state.
Speaking on Friday, KC clarified that he is alive and well, and that the Bayelsa Volunteers were in no way involved in any attack on him. On the contrary, he explained that members of the group were instrumental in rescuing him during a stampede caused by a security scare at the market.
“There was tension at the Swali Market on September 22 due to cult-related unrest in the area,” he said. “I was running to safety like everyone else and unfortunately fell, sustaining minor injuries. It was the Bayelsa Volunteers, under the leadership of High Chief Lucky Asanakpo, who rushed to my aid, took me to the hospital, and ensured I received proper medical attention. Chief Asanakpo even paid my medical bills.”
KC said he felt compelled to speak out in order to set the record straight and exonerate the Bayelsa Volunteers from any blame, stressing that the circulating rumours were baseless and misleading.
“I was never dead, and I was never attacked by the Bayelsa Volunteers,” he emphasized. “I want to thank Chief Asanakpo for his kindness and support. He is a good man doing excellent work to keep our markets and communities safe. I urge the public to disregard any false information about this incident.”
He further called on residents to support the efforts of the Bayelsa Volunteers in maintaining peace and order, especially in troubled areas like Swali and Amarata, where rival cult clashes have become a recurring threat to public safety.
