MEDIA REMAINS KEY PARTNER IN CRIME FIGHT, SAYS AIG ADENOLA

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 16 Command Headquarters, Johnson Oluwole Adenola, has emphasized the bond between the Nigeria Police Force and journalists, describing the media as a reliable partner in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.

AIG Adenola made this known when he received the newly elected executives and members of the United Correspondents Chapel (UCC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State Council, in his office in Yenagoa.

He said the police under his command are working to promote professional and people-friendly policing, while urging journalists to sustain their partnership with the force. According to him, journalists, beyond being watchdogs of society, live within communities and share the responsibility of informing the police of any form of crime.

The police boss congratulated the new UCC executives, describing their emergence as a testament to the confidence reposed in them by their colleagues. He also disclosed that heads of various units are stepping up activities to monitor officers on the road and ensure they do not contribute to societal problems.

AIG Adenola assured members of the UCC of his support, stressing that cordial relations between the police and the media eliminate the need for antagonism.

Earlier, the Chairman of UCC, Comrade Ekaunkumo Amgbare, thanked AIG Adenola and other senior officers for the warm reception. He said that the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration in the fight against crime.

He also commended the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gunn Emonena, for fostering a cordial working relationship with the media, describing his professionalism as exemplary.

The high point of the visit was the presentation of a plaque from AIG Johnson Oluwole Adenola to Comrade Ekaunkumo Amgbare.
